Golden Triumph: Nigeria's U18 Girls' 100m Runners Sweep Podium at African Championship

The Moshood Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta roared with excitement as Team Nigeria delivered a spectacular performance on day two of the 3rd Combined African Under-18 and Under-20 Athletics Championships going on in Abeokuta Ogun State from I6th to the 20th of July, 2025
In a stunning show of dominance, Nigeria girls clinched all three medals in the U18 100 meters final. Elizabeth Ezechukwu Miracle blazed through the finish line to secure gold, followed closely by Nwoko Chigozie, who claimed silver, while Jegede Mariam completed the clean sweep with bronze.
The historic podium finish electrified Nigerian supporters and left spectators from the 43 participating African nations in awe.
The Chairman National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko visibly moved, applauded the performance, calling it a shining moment that reflects the future of Nigerian athletics.
He added that the achievement was a testament to the renewed investment in grassroots talent development and the dedication of our coaches.
The Director-General NSC/ the Chairman , Local Organising Committee (LOC) described the sweep as inspiring and symbolic of the rising momentum in Nigeria’s youth sports sector.
He emphasized that the success of the young girls was not accidental but the result of strategic planning, early talent discovery, and intensive preparation. He added that this is a proud moment not just for these girls, but for the entire country.
Cheers erupted as the Nigerian flag was hoisted high and the national anthem rang proudly through the stadium, celebrating the young athletes’ remarkable feat.
Nigeria’s medal success hasn’t stopped there. The host nation continues to show promise across multiple events, with a growing tally of silver and bronze medals in both U18 and U20 categories, further boosting morale and national pride.
As the championships progresses, all eyes remain on Nigeria, now firmly established as a powerhouse in African youth athletics.
