Nigeria’s Juniors Add Two Golds in Brilliant Evening Session at Africa Zone 2 Swimming Championship

Nigeria’s junior swimmers capped off the opening day of the Africa Zone 2 Swimming Championship in Ghana with a medal-laden evening session, securing Two Gold , One Silver , and Two Bronze medals to reinforce their strong start.

Aidan Dumuje once again proved unstoppable, powering to Gold in the boys’ 100 Butterfly with a display of explosive pace and flawless technique. His triumph was matched by Timilehin Olaiya, who showed grit and stamina to claim gold in the demanding 400m individual medley, giving Nigeria its second top-podium finish of the evening.

Nigeria success was not limited to Gold . Ibidapo Oluwatofunmi swam a composed race to secure silver in the 200 M freestyle girls’ event, while Mariam added to the team’s tally with a hard-fought bronze medal. Timilehin returned to the podium for a second time, this time earning a bronze, underscoring his versatility across events.

The evening’s results brought Nigeria’s medal count for the day to eleven in total — Four gold, Two silver, and Five bronze, a performance that highlights both individual brilliance and team depth. With the opening day now completed, Team Nigeria has positioned itself as a major contender in the championship’s medal race.
