2025 CAA U-18/U-20: U.S.-High School Graduate, Hurdler Divine Bamgboye Dig For Gold In Abeokuta
Hurdler Divine Bamgboye Seeks to Strike Gold at 2025 CAA U-18/U-20 Championship
Rising U.S.-based Nigerian hurdler, Divine Bamgboye, is ready to make her mark at the 2025 Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) U-18/U-20 Championships currently taking place in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Bamgboye, who recently graduated from Urbana High School in the United States, will be representing Team Nigeria in the U-20 hurdles final on Friday, and she has her sights firmly set on the gold medal.
Speaking ahead of her event, the 18-year-old expressed confidence in her preparations and belief in her abilities despite feeling some nerves
“I expect to win gold. It’s nerve-racking, I feel very nervous, but I’m very optimistic. I think I can do it—it’s within reach,” she said.
The talented athlete, who is a niece of Honourable Lanre Ogunyinka, the Permanent Secretary of the Ogun State Sports Commission, emphasized her passion for athletics and, in particular, hurdles, as a driving force behind her success.
“I love hurdles. Ever since I tried the sport, everything has been going great for me. I like to win too. Athletics was my first love. I tried other sports, but I didn’t really enjoy them,” she added.
Bamgboye revealed that she has been training intensively over the past three weeks to ensure she is in peak condition for the championships.
Born in Abeokuta—the very city hosting the continental event—Bamgboye also shared her deep connection with her Nigerian heritage, saying she cherishes the country’s food and cultural attire.
She also paid tribute to her family, describing them as her source of strength and encouragement throughout her sporting journey.
As the U-20 hurdles final draws closer, Bamgboye is calling on athletics fans across Africa to keep an eye out for her performance as she aims to light up the track and fly the Nigerian flag high.
